Membership

CPA’s membership is open to hospitals, universities, medical schools, and cultural institutions. It includes some of the largest employers and energy users in New York State. Eight of CPA’s recent member hospitals are among the 15 largest regional health organizations including five of the six largest. Seven CPA members are among New York City’s 18 largest employers. A list of CPA’s current membership follows:

CPA members are part of the healthcare and educational services sectors which account for 678,000 jobs or 19% of New York City’s employment. Despite the fact that New York City saw a net loss of 124,000 for the five year period ending in 2008, this sector experienced a growth of 50,000 jobs, the largest growth of any sector in the entire city. Collectively our recent members have over $15.1 billion in annual expenditures and plan to spend about $4.3 billion on new construction projects in the coming years. This will add about 5 million square feet in new facilities. CPA members spend over $270 million on energy each year including $173 million (64%) on electricity. In total these institutions employ nearly 110,500 people.
