Before embarking on a program to develop an energy conservation strategy, a client must understand current energy consumption. To help clients understand their energy usage, Luthin Associates develops a historical benchmark and reviews current and historical details of the client's energy profile. This "line in the sand" provides the basis against which future comparisons will be made.
Luthin Associates recommends that the benchmarks be developed utilizing the Energy Star Portfolio Manager. This web-based system is the industry standard for benchmarking. We are also proficient in using the Clean Air and Climate Protection (CACP) software developed by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI).
NYC's Local Law 84 (LL84) requires owners of large buildings (greater than 50,000 square feet) to annually measure their energy and water consumption. LL84 standardizes this process by requiring building owners to enter their annual energy and water use in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) online tool, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager® and use the tool to submit data to the City. Compliance with this law requires that all data is submitted by May 1st of the following calendar year. Luthin Associates' Energy Services Team has assisted many of our clients with this process and timely submission as well as tracking of progress year over year to help with energy efficiency planning.
